Northwoods League Announces Executive and Organization of the Year

October 17, 2022 – Northwoods League Press Release (Northwoods)

Rochester, Minnesota – The Northwoods League has announced that Brian Colopy, Owner/General Manager of the Kalamazoo Growlers, has been named the 2022 Northwoods League Manager of the Year. The award, which was decided by a vote of team officials at the League’s annual fall meetings last week in Rochester, MN, is given annually to the League’s outstanding executive. In another vote, the Kalamazoo Growlers received the Organization of the Year award.

Colopy, the 2020 Northwoods League Leader of the Year, recently completed his 13th year in the NWL, and first as owner of the Growlers and Battle Creek Battle Jacks.

Of these accolades, Colopy said: “I couldn’t be more proud of our staff, our fans and everyone who made our 2022 season number one in the record books. They made this season what she was, and we can’t wait to get back to working to make our 2023 season just as memorable.”

During his time in the Northwoods League, Brian became known for his viral ideas including Coach Drake, Home Run Pre-Game Derbies, The Salute to Selfie Night and the Twinkie Dog.

“Brian is a leader in his field due to his instinctive creativity, vision and execution of Northwoods League matches and other events throughout the year,” said Northwoods Chairman League, Ryan Voz.

The Kalamazoo Growlers have been honored as the Northwoods League Organization of the Year after a very successful season. The Growlers made the playoffs and had an unlikely run that culminated in a championship after beating Wisconsin Rapids and then Duluth on the road. The Growlers finished the season with an overall record of 36-35. Kalamazoo finished second with 80,052 fans over 35 games for an average of 2,287.

“The Growlers have had an outstanding year on and off the court and it’s great to see them being recognized by their peers,” Voz said. “”Brian’s vision and the dedication of the Growlers staff place them in an elite group in the world of summer college baseball. ”
