LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) — An annual event Saturday in Lexington honored the lives of those who died from drug overdoses.
Voices of Hope is a community-based recovery organization. The Founders held their ninth “Overdose Awareness Day” at Jacobsen Park.
The event included several guest speakers, music and family activities. More than 30 community organizations participated in a resource fair that provided information for those seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and to help grieving families.
People also brought photos of loved ones to display on a memorial space and write messages of hope to share with others.
“We know that often when people overdose they may not get an obituary. They may not get characteristic cards or flowers like people do when they die of other illnesses, so it’s really about providing a safe space for families to grieve,” the co said. -founder Alex Elswick.
Elswick says Voices of Hope recently opened a new center on North Broadway. They encourage anyone who needs support to reach out.
