Israel’s Attack on the Gaza Strip – The Organization for World Peace

Israel launched a deadly strike in the Gaza Strip on Friday, August 5, 2022, targeting senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad military officials. Tayseer Al Jabari, commander of the Islamic Jihad’s armed wing’s Quds Brigade, was killed along with 10 others and at least 75 were injured.

The purpose of this military attack according to the Israeli army was to preemptively stop Al Jabari and the anti-tank squads that were heading towards the attack of the Israeli forces. “The purpose of this operation is the elimination of a concrete threat against the citizens of Israel and civilians living near the Gaza Strip, as well as the targeting of terrorists and their sponsors,” the prime minister explained. Israeli Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny. Gantz in a joint statement. Lapid followed up that statement by saying, “The Israeli government will not allow terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip to set the agenda in the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip and threaten the citizens of the state of Israel. Anyone who tries to harm Israel should know: we will find you.

Islamic Jihad responded with a growing threat: “All options are open, with all the means available to the Palestinian resistance, whether in Gaza or outside… The battlefield is open… The resistance will respond with all strength. We won’t say how but it’s inevitable,” spokesman Daoud Shehab exclaimed on AlJazeera.

The escalation of the conflict is worrying and the United Nations is “extremely concerned” about the recent attack, especially for civilians who are caught in the crossfire. The United Arab Emirates Mission to the UN along with France, Norway, China and Ireland have requested a closed meeting of the UN Security Council next week to discuss recent events in the Gaza Strip, as well as to consider strategic measures to de-escalate the conflict in the region in the future.

Future relations between Iran and Israel are uncertain, and the recent attack on the Gaza Strip has added a new layer of turmoil in the region. As Iran attempts to build nuclear weapons, there is much at stake in the subsequent decisions that will be made to arbitrate the conflict. In order to stop the escalation of violence, it is essential that peace talks be encouraged between Israel, Iran and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. In the meantime, there is an urgent need for Israel to open its crossings to humanitarian aid in order to provide immediate assistance such as food and medical care to civilians in the targeted area.
