Former Cleveland Cavaliers dancer opens studio in Brecksville

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio — A former dancer for the Cleveland Cavaliers minor league basketball team has opened a dance studio on Ohio 21 near Snowville Road.

Kylie Taylor – who danced for the Canton Charge, now the Cleveland charge, for one year in 2016 – began operating Revel Dance Complex in September. The workshop, which moved to a vacant building near the northeast corner of Ohio 21 and Snowvilleteaches children and young adults from 3 to 18 years old.

“My goals and mission (are) to create healthy, intelligent, practical dancers who learn life skills both inside and outside the studio,” Taylor said in a letter to the Commission of Brecksville planning.

“My motto is people first, dancer second. I focus on encouraging my dancers to work on things like communication and being a member of the support team.

In August, the commission approved a conditional use license that will allow the dance studio to operate in a manufacturing and distribution district. Conditional uses are permitted in various zoning districts on a case-by-case basis with city approval.

Taylor, an Akron resident, said Revel Dance Complex will focus on competitive dancing. She plans to organize her dancers into teams and compete in tournaments.

“My goal is to give dancers opportunities that they don’t necessarily have right now,” Taylor said. cleveland.com in an email. “Whether they want to be a professional dancer or a doctor, the life skills that dance imparts (are) invaluable, especially on a competitive team.”

According Revel’s website, Taylor has danced, taught and choreographed for over 10 years in Ohio and Western New York. The Buffalo, NY native has competed nationally and regionally for Dance Spectrum in New York State, New York City Dance Alliance, Onstage New York, StarQuest and Jump Dance Co.

“It’s always been a dream of mine since I was a young girl to open a studio,” Taylor told the planning commission in August. “I moved to Ohio six years ago to pursue a professional dancing career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and simultaneously began teaching in the area.”

At Revel, children will learn, among other things, classical dance, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary dance and ballroom dancing.
